In 1978, at the age of 15, Lane was the Bull Riding Champion of the Small Fry Rodeo Association. In 1980, when Lane was a sophomore, he was the Bull Riding Champion of the OYRA, and the runner-up Bull Riding Champion of the National High School Rodeo Association.

Even from a young age, Lane enjoyed competing and that's what inspired the creation of this hat. We say thata Rambler is someone who not only competes to be the best but also has a lot of fun doing it.
